The Lake Hills Loop
Great Climb. Great Views. Great Loop.
Whether you walk, run, or bike, don’t miss this 5-mile, view-rich route starting in downtown Chelan. Along the way you will enjoy views of Deer Mountain, the Butte, and Lake Chelan. Go!
The Route
The Lake Hills Loop checks all the boxes for a good workout: elevation gain to raise the heart rate, big views, and a fun descent (on a bike).
For years I ran this route through the abandoned Lake Hills subdivision. Recently, a new developer purchased and completed the project. A few new homes now grace its streets.
Enjoy this route in both spring and fall. In low-snow years, it is pleasant in the winter. In summer, start early to beat the heat.

The Climb
The Lake Hills Loop begins in downtown Chelan. Regardless of your location, head east on nearly any street until you hit Bradley. Turn left and mentally prepare for a climb. (Good views don’t come without some cost to the lungs and legs!)
Bradley rises up through a narrow gully to a flat bench filled with orchards, homes, the Fraternal Cemetery, and the Lake Chelan Rodeo grounds. Watch for cars as you ascend the gully.
Continue up Bradley until you see Long Drive on your left. There isn’t a road sign, but this will be your only left.
Long Drive winds through a rocky landscape before climbing to the high point of the Lake Hills Loop. Climbing complete!
The Traverse and Drop
Continue west on Long Drive and pause to appreciate views of the Butte, Lake Chelan, and the Lake Chelan Golf Course.
After a short half-mile traverse, Long Drive drops through a mature neighborhood. Turn left on Bogey Blvd and continue to lose elevation winding through more homes. Bogey gives way to Golf Course Drive and views open up again to the west.
Finally, at the roundabout, cross the road and follow the multi-use trail back to downtown Chelan with views of the lake, Butte, and city park.
Congrats! You have finished the Lake Hills Loop.
